Generally once a week I meet up with one more Lithuanian (or yabançi gelin as Turkish would say) to get some 'Lithuanisation' and to get rid of the misty feeling that Turkey is not really my home. Surprisingly, the time then goes extremely quickly and those four or five hours turn into one hour or something. What do we do together? Chatting chatting and chatting... Lithuanian way... and cooking my :) way. Yesterday actually we were kind of Turkey inspired and made Turkish grape leaves wraps or sarmas and stuffed zuccini or kabak dolma and everything was just to please her Turkish husband. Someone once said... the shortest way to a man's heart is ... ... ... Place for your own personal interpretation!
about 400 gr grape leaves
1 cup rice
1 big chicken breast ( originally should be ground beef)
1 big onion, chopped
2 tbsp pine nuts
1 tbsp dry or fresh mint
1 tbsp of fresh parsley
1 chopped tomato
red pepper flakes
2 cups of water
3 tbsp of tomato salsa
What to do:
1. Mix the filling and wrap it into grape leaves.
2. Put then into the pot, pour the water. After simmering for a while add tomato salsa, some more oregano or bay leave.
3. Serve it with fresh yoghurt. Enjoy!
The same filling we used to stuff kabaklar! By the way, in one region of Greece they prepare sarmas in the oven. :) Just for cultural awareness... :) Have a nice day!!!
